Why should I consider a rewire?

The key benefits for a home to undergo a rewire are:

  • Safety
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Resale value
  • Improved performance

The necessary time to have a rewire can sometimes be urgent, and others can be strategical for any tenant or homeowner.

If you are not in an urgent position to need a rewire, you may want to think about rewiring before you renovate your home. It can be tempting to get started in creating your ideal living room, kitchen, walls and flooring, but some wall damages throughout the home could mean you re-work some key areas if you’re not careful, we recommend having a rewire before spending money on any other areas of your home if you can.

How can I check the condition of my property?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) will tell you all you need to know. in short, this is the 'MOT' that dictates if your car is road worthy, an EICR will involve a qualified electrician inspecting and testing your home & reporting what condition the installation is in and/if there is any improvements needed, each section of the report is reported as either, Pass, N/A, FI, C1-immediate danger, C2-Potentially dangerous or C3- Improvement recommended, an overall General Installation Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory will then be determined. if satisfactory then you can ease your worries as your installation is in a safe condition, if Unsatisfactory based on your report your Electrician will give you an overview of what needs doing to get your installation safe & Satisfactory.

If a property is more than 30 years old and has the original wiring, it is likely to need updating, at least in part, to meet modern standards, this could include replacing the fuse box with a modern consumer unit for example. A sign a rewire is necessary, is dated rubber, fabric or lead-insulated cabling and very poor installation design by previous installers. Old and faulty wiring can cause the entire electrical system to trip frequently or blow fuses or, at worst, spark a potentially fatal electric shock or lethal house fire.

Why trust Riley Electrical Solutions?

You want to see all of these signs before choosing to let a person/company work on any part of your electrical installation especially something as critical as a rewire.

  • Ask for proof the installer is indeed a Registered electrician.
  • Check if the electrician is registered with a regulatory body such as NAPIT, ELECSA, NICEIC this will ensure they can supply you with the Certification your work requires & that they can inform building control of works complete.
  • Check they are insured.
  • Look for references & reviews.
